Handicapping WNBA Games for 07/30/2006

San Antonio Silver Stars +11.5 (+100)
Chicago Sky +6 (-105)

Both teams figure to lose this game more often than not, but at the current prices both teams figure to cover their respective spreads more often than not. I figure to have a decent return over the long haul for both teams at these prices.

New York Liberty +8.5 (+104)

Neither of these teams are all that good, and even if you figure the Sting win this game a good portion of the time the Liberty figure to cover the 8.5 points more often than not. Getting +8.5 at +104 looks to present good value.

Chicago Sky +11 (-105)

Giving double digits to any WNBA team is tough to cover as more often than not when a team loses they do so by 10 points or less. This game should be no different, as even though Washington figures to win a good portion of the time the Sky figure to cover the 11 points more often than not.

New York Liberty +10.5 (-108)

New York was just crushed by Seattle (again), and now they play a top team in the East–a recipe for disaster, right? New York has the chance of getting blown out, but WNBA teams don’t play to blow teams out–they play to win.

The Liberty are undoubtedly focused after such an embarassing defeat at home, and historical margins of victory show that more often than not you can figure a WNBA team will cover 10.5 points at home, regardless of how often you figure the other team to win.

Chicago Sky +13.5 (-105)

Detroit is another good team the Sky face, but they shouldn’t be giving 13.5 points to any WNBA team. The Sky continue to be underrated, as most expansion teams in all sports are. More often than not the Sky should cover the 13.5 points providing a good return over the long haul.

Major League Distraction

These are the types of distractions that can cause teams to play poorly. Gibbons challenges player to a fight… and it’s either “him or me”?

Player is then cut.

I’d be upset of I were a Blue Jays fan, and I’d be weary if I were a Blue Jays bettor. Just keep this in the memory bank.

Why does the U.S. want to prohibit Internet betting?

The answer is fairly simple: because they don’t know any better. Take a look at this clip from The Daily Show, and you’ll see why.

New York Liberty +12 (-105)

The Liberty play their last game out west against Sacramento, so I don’t figure Hammon has flown in to risk further injury. Even still, getting 12 points figures to provide value, as the Liberty should cover the 12 points more often than not.

Chicago Sky +15 (-102)

The Sky will be playing a back-to-back, but 15 points is a bit much. The Sun are a very good team, but they shouldn’t be giving up 15 points to anyone. There is a chance the Sky are completely blown out in this game, but more often than not they should cover the 15 points.

Charlotte Sting +11 (-105)

Like most of their games, the Sting figure to lose more often than not. Getting 11 points, however, figures to be too much. Teams get blown out, but they usually don’t care about blowing other teams out, so typically anything over 10 is too much value to pass up, even for the worst teams.

New York Liberty +16 (-106)

I figure Hammon won’t play in this game, as the Liberty go home soon. 16 points, however, figures to be too much for this matchup. The Sparks are flashy, but that doesn’t justify giving 16 points to any team. There is always the possiblity that Los Angeles blows out New York, but more often than not the Liberty should cover the 16 points.
